Reading in Year 2

Reading at home is very important. Reading for just 10 minutes a day can make a BIG difference. All children have now been given a log in for Collins Big Cat Ebooks. It would be great if they could log in at home and read the books that they have been allocated.

The link for the website is posted below:

If you have forgotten your child's log in details please let your class teacher know.

This half term our topic is called 'Brilliant Builders.' In the role play we will have a builders yard set up with lots of tools to fix. Outside, our small world will focus on Construction vehicles. In science we will be focusing on Materials and what properties different materials have. We will be testing these materials in a Science Experiment by making bridges with what we think will be the best material for the job. In language we will be looking in detail at bridges and creating an information booklet about the Transporter Bridge in Newport. We will also be looking at Persuasive Writing.

Our Big questions this half term are:

-Why do we have bridges?

Please see our topic overview below for more information...

Spring 2 - Superheroes

Croeso! Welcome back! We have been so excited to be reunited with you all back in the classroom! Our topic this half tern is 'Superheroes' with a focus on real life Superheroes. We will be looking at different types of Superheroes and discussing the fact that not all Superheroes wear capes. We will specifically look at the NHS and how they have been Superheroes to us throughout the pandemic. As a thank you we will be writing the NHS a thank you letter for all they have done. We can't wait to share these with you. In Topic we will be designing our own Superhero and discussing what qualities they have. In Maths we are going to look at Multiplication. In Science we will be completing a science investigation where we will have to free the Superheroes from the jelly. Our investigation question will be 'Which method is the quickest method to free the Superhero from the jelly?'

Our big questions for this half term are:

-Why don't all Superheroes wear capes?

-What qualities do Superheroes have?

-Which method is the quickest method to free the Superheroes from the jelly?

The Grange University Hospital loved our 'Superhero thank you' letters and we thought we'd share these with you...
