Dear Parents & Carers
We would like to welcome the pupils back for their final time at Bryn Hafod Primary School. We are looking forward to a jam-packed timetable, filled with learning experiences. We have included a few details below that might help you out over the next few weeks as the children settle in.
PE Days
PE days for both classes this term will be on a Monday. Children can wear PE kit into school on this day to save changing etc. Please make sure that children wear suitable footwear for PE e.g. trainers not sandals or football boots.
Home Reading
Children in Year 5/6 are encouraged to change their reading books when needed. Reading at home is extremely important to your child’s education, so we ask all parents/carers to read with children wherever possible, helping them by starting difficult words for them and ask your own questions along the way about the story and the characters actions in the story.
“Why did he do that?”
“How could she feel now?”
“What may happen next?”
Help them by breaking longer words into sounds.
All children should know there Giglets password and log in, on Giglets they will be able to find serval books that they can read at home. If your child does not know their log in please contact their class teacher and they will be able to give it to you.
Water
Please ensure your child brings a bottle of water to school with them. Please avoid providing fizzy drinks and also note that energy drinks are not allowed.
Applications for High School
Over the next few weeks, we will be informing you that applications for High School are open. It is important that you complete the online applications before the deadlines given to ensure your child gets a place in your preferred school. They usually have to be completed by mid November. Over the past few years Eastern High and St Iltyds have been oversubscribed so getting your application in on time will ensure that your child has the best possible chance. I cannot stress this enough as parents over the past few years have been left disappointed. If you wish to receive support with completing your child’s application, please contact the school in plenty of time to allow us to put a plan in place.
Walking Home
If you wish for your child to walk home from school by themselves, please write a letter to your child’s class teacher providing written consent for your child to do so. Children without a letter will not be allowed to leave the school premises.
We hope we have your support in helping your child to achieve the very best that they can. It’s going to be a very busy, yet exciting year.
