SFA (Success For All)
We have our literacy sessions every morning from 9.00am to 10.30pm. We work collaboratively in order to achieve ‘Success for All!’ We are put into small teams and choose our team name and team cheer. We work with our partners and our teams to improve our reading, writing and oracy skills. We have already written a range of genres, including report writing, persuasive writing and explanations. We make it more fun by using co-operative learning points. We will continue extending these skills this term.
Maths
We have ‘Big Maths’ 20 minute CLIC sessions every day. These are a fast paced session that include Counting, Learn its, It’s nothing new and Calculation. These sessions extend our number skills and we continue to try to beat our ‘Big Maths Beat That’ test score every week! We are making great progress with this!
After our CLIC session we then have a further 40mins of topic or number work. In our topic work this term we are focusing on measurement - including mass, distance and capacity.
Wider Curriculum
Cornerstones (Theme)
Our Cornerstones topic this term is Allotment. It has a science focus relating to plants and the environment. We have planted a lot of seeds and now have French beans, cucumbers and tomatoes growing in our classroom!
We are doing a variety of investigations which will allow us to develop our science skills.
We are also focusing on art and are looking at how fruit and vegetables are used in art and the artists that use them. We have already produced some really good still life drawings using pencil and charcoal. We hope make pictures using fruit and vegetables which can be photographed and added to our gallery.
Welsh
This term we are learning to read, write and talk about ‘Y dre’ (The town). We will be learning to discuss where we have been, what we did and what we saw etc.
We try to use Welsh around the school every day.
Each week two children are selected as Helpwr Heddiw. They give instructions in Welsh during the day and run a 15 minute session of Welsh every day except Friday.
SEAL
This half term our SEAL focus is ‘Relationships’ as we try to help each other work together and learn to ‘get along’!
We are Kai and Callum. We are this term’s Website stars! We are responsible for updating our page. We will upload pictures of our great work and keep you informed on what’s happening in our busy classroom!
